Vision of Hope in 2010
A new beginning . . .
Supporting girls who live on the streets . . .
Who we are
Vision of Hope is a Zambian organization that supports some of the most disadvantaged street children in the country â?? young girls. Due to extreme poverty and the deaths of family members due to HIV and AIDS, girls as young as 12 find themselves living on the streets of the capital, Lusaka.
Without regular access to food and no access to education or shelter, these girls are susceptible to abuse on the streets. Vision of Hope runs a weekly drop-in centre that offers these girls a rare safe space where they can socialise, eat regular meals, receive medical care and get practical advice from skilled professionals on how to keep themselves safe and healthy on the streets.
How you can help
Vision of Hope is looking for supporters for the continuation of its drop-in centre. Any contribution you can make will be appreciated but here are some examples of the difference your generosity can make.

Past Fundraising Events:
Dear Friends,
In May, â??A Night of Song for Hopeâ?? was held in New York City. Many dear friends gathered to aid the Hope Foundation, a program I have worked with in Zambia that assists girls living on the street in Lusaka, Zambia. It turned out to be an incredible evening filled with friends, support and song, and a wonderful sense of community. I was so thankful for the support shown and grateful for the money raised for such an important cause.
Many people have expressed their desire to donate to this cause, so I have created this site as to make that possible.
I returned to Zambia in June to continue my work with girls living on the street. The founder of the Hope Foundation and I have started an organization called Vision of Hope Ltd., a non-government organization (NGO) that continues the Hope Foundationâ??s mission. We are currently providing a once a week outreach program to help the girls access food, clothing, water for bathing and cleaning clothes, medical support, and educational and recreational opportunities. This program also serves as safe environment to education the girls about health issues such as HIV/AIDS and other STI prevention.
Our long-term goal is to have a center and a home where the girls may access services seven days a week. As we continue to build the program, our other specific goals are:
1. To raise money to send each of the girls to school. In order to attend school the girls need money for their uniforms, school shoes, backpacks, books and school fees. This amounts to approximately $125 per child, annually.
2. To assist with operational expenses. This includes food, rent, educational endeavors, cleaning supplies, and staff salaries.
3. To make other local NGOs aware of Vision of Hopeâ??s needs. To access their services and actively involve the NGO workers in volunteering with the girls.
4. To use my growing NGO connections to find ongoing medical care for the girls, such as monthly checkups and HIV/malaria testing.
5. To develop workshops to teach hygiene, health, and wellness skills.
6. To continue to create arts and music workshops for the girls.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the love and support that you have shown for this cause.
Sincerely,
Meg Oâ??Brien
